MailerQ - The most powerful MTA
If your typical sending volume consists of several thousand transactional messages and a weekly newsletter, a cloud-based email relay solution will likely do the trick just fine as long as your daily volume does not exceed a certain threshold. However, if you need to deliver several million emails per day, you will probably run into limitations in terms of control and insight as well as economic disadvantages.

Control your own delivery logistics |
As an on-premise MTA, MailerQ allows you to manage the reputation of your own IPs yourself, instead of another company managing the reputation of their IPs which is either dedicated to you or shared with others. This means that one of their deliverability engineers and/or their algorithms decide what you can send, instead of you. And possible mistakes made by others might affect your sending operations.
Again, this is fine when you don't send a lot, but a higher volume sender will want to control their sending configuration from start to finish. MailerQ allows you to define exactly how messages should be sent from your IPs or IP pools to certain ISPs, what to do when they complain, how to classify bounces and how to adapt behaviour accordingly. So you fully decide how to maintain your IPs reputations. Besides this, you can pause, fail or reroute any individual delivery or group of deliveries meeting certain conditions on-the-fly. Accidentally sent out a campaign? Just cancel it in MailerQ. Does some ongoing high-profile delivery need to be rerouted over a different group of IPs on the fly? No problem.
With MailerQ, you get superior control over your entire email operations.
A higher volume sender typically doesn't just want a highly configurable sending platform. You'll likely want to know exactly what's going on and integrate that information with local dashboards or data. While cloud platforms provide dashboards to monitor your performance, you are limited to the endpoints they provide. Besides the management console which provides extensive insight into real-time deliveries, MailerQ can provide all the results of your deliveries including an attempts chain and store that data locally, which you can then process and incorporate with your own monitoring tools. This means you can even see how well your transactional emails are doing compared to your bulk mailings, or how the delivery of a campaign of one of your customers to Gmail is doing. So with MailerQ, you have access to all data and organized results and are able to integrate and use those with your own systems.
Since MailerQ does not have some cost-per-message model but instead has a perpetual pricing model, you can send as many messages as you want without unexpected extra costs. Even if you send just a couple of million emails per day, your monthly fees will already run into thousands of euros/dollars.
This means that even with an extra instance for redundancy purposes, MailerQ would literally already make you money after just a few months.
